Focus Point Description

The Performance Seating application uses a Focus Point family to orient the rows, as well as provide a reference for drawing sightlines, camera views, and ultimately calculating seating sections in the advanced application.  A Focus Point is a Generic Model Family that holds a visual sphere diameter that must be placed in the model prior to placing seats.  Any number of focus points may be included in the model; however, each row can only be associated with one focus point.

Focus Point Naming

Focus points must be uniquely named, and the name will increment based on the naming convention for each one inserted.  A focus point name may be changed in the Revit Properties panel by changing the PB_FocusPoint_Name instance parameter.  Note that attempting to rename a focus point to another with the same name will result in an error.

Focus Point Colors

There are 8 colors of focus points available to aid in locating them in the model.  The colors align to the line annotation as well as the 3D material in a 3d view.  The colors do not have to be unique, and are not used by the application for calculations.

Focus Point Placement

While focus points may be placed using standard family insertion methods, the user is encouraged to use the Performance Seating tool to insert the points.  See here for further information.

Using a Focus Point

The Performance Seating Properties panel indicates which focus point the application will use when placing seats.  Prior to initiating the Place Seats command, select the appropriate focus point for the row references to use.  It is important to select the appropriate focus point prior to seat placement, as this cannot currently be changed after seats are placed.

Focus Point Deletion

While there is nothing to prevent a user from deleting a focus point, it is important to understand that a focus point that is referenced by a seat / row cannot be recreated after it is deleted.  This will prevent any editing options of those seats, and they will need to be re-inserted with a new focus point.  Please use caution when deleting focus points.
